The surroundings

The Cotentin Peninsula is often called Little Ireland because it is known for its green hedgerowed fields, beautiful moorland and of course its enchanting coastline

Description

We are in the heart of the Cotentin and Bessin nature parks, ideal for hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing or simply relaxing and enjoying the wonderful panoramas in this unique, largely untouched landscape...

The nearest sandy beaches St. Germain Plage, Creances and Pirou Plage are 10 to 15 minutes away by car, but are only a small part of this unique coast. It's really worth trying out some of the countless narrow streets leading to the sea and being surprised by the variety of beaches. Lindbergh Plage, Denneville, Surville, Glatigny, Bretteville sur Ay, St. Remy des Landes, Carteret, Portbail… are all worth a trip!

Many tourist attractions are easy to reach by car: Pirou Castle – 15 minutes, Lessay Abbey – 10 minutes, Coutances historic old town, Cathedral & Botanical Gardens – 20 minutes, Bayeux embroidery – 55 minutes, Cherbourg Cite de la Mer, Town & Harbor – 45 minutes, Granville Old Town, Boutiques, & Harbor – 50 minutes, Mont St. Michael Old Town & Monastery – 90 minutes, Gratot Water castle – 50 minutes, Hambye Monastery – 40 minutes, Briquebec Castle – 30 minutes, Barfleur romantic fishing village - 50 minutes, Cap de la Hague impressive cliffs - 40 minutes, Barneville Carteret beach promenade & ferry connection to the Channel Islands (including the flower island of Jersey) - 25 minutes, portbail – 20 minutes, Omaha Beach, St. Mere Eglise and Utah Beach War Museums & War Cemeteries - 40 minutes

The many local weekly markets, flea markets, village festivals and music festivals provide further variety, including the well-known Coutances Jazz Festival in May and the huge, colorful animal market in Lessay in May and September.

“We spent two very nice and relaxing weeks at La Vacherie. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Jene and Dave.” Rainer and Monika with Eddy from Wachtberg near Bonn/Germany

If you can't resist a typical French breakfast, we recommend a 5 minute morning walk to our general store in the village “Chez Valerie”, who gets a delivery of fresh crispy croissants and baguettes every morning. For larger purchases, La Haye du Puits (5 km) offers 3 large supermarkets (Aldi, Carrefour & Intermarche), bakeries, butchers, restaurants, banks, post office etc., as well as a traditional market every Wednesday morning. For very special treats, we recommend a visit to the Maison du Biscuit, Fromagerie Reo and Les Jambons de Lessay. The huge French hypermarkets are in Cherbourg (Auchan, Carrefour…) or Coutances (Leclerc).

Perfect for a holiday with your dog! Just 10 to 15 minutes from your holiday home you will find beautiful, natural sandy beaches and fantastic dune landscapes with no leash requirement and no limits...
