Spring is sprung!! We’ve had a few weeks of intermittently sunny weather now, and the garden is in full bloom. April and May are our favourite time of the year here at La Bourdonnerie: the primroses are in full bloom, and the greens of the grass and leaves are at their most vibrant as the various plants around the place burst into life. Our azaleas are looking amazing right now, and as we say goodbye to the last of the daffs, we have tulips everywhere.
All of the holiday cottages are in tip-top shape after their annual thorough spring clean, and the only ‘messy’ part of the garden is the orchard, where we’re currently building a swimming pool. Although, when i say ‘currently’… we’re having a few issues with planning consent which we’re trying to work through patiently with the various authorities, so for the time being, we have a large hole in the ground and not much else… we’re hoping work will recommence by the end of April, meaning we hope to have the pool ready for this summer.
We’re also working on a new chicken enclosure on the back field: anyone who’s been here will know that we have several beautiful chickens who wander freely around the property during the day. Unfortunately last year we lost the majority of them in May when the local fox needed food for his cubs and was bold enough to come into the garden during broad daylight each day to pick them off. So we’re hoping to ‘outfox the fox’ this year by enclosing them for the months of May and June.
We still have some availability in some of the holiday cottages in May between 30th April and 14th May, and we’ve discounted the rates heavily, so if you can drop everything and come at short notice, give us a shout quickly! [:]
